Mas allá de ser un pedazo de género es un elemento muy importante dentro de la cultura oriental, además por todo ese misterio seductor que representa y toma peso dentro de esta danza. El velo representa en la bailarina todo aquello que yace oculto, que no se puede ver, que este velado por los ojos ajenos, lo que no se quiere mostrar o no se debe verse. Es un elemento que contiene mucha seducción, la bailarina juega con él, se cubre y se descubre, ocultando todo el esplendor de su belleza. El velo es seductor, es el abrigo, es un instrumento decorativo, sirve como símbolo de protección, esta a su vez representa a la ignorancia, lo que se desconoce, el velo que muchos poseen, aunque no lo veamos a simple vista, lo velado, lo inaccesible, la ignorancia…
Al danzar, este toma vida y un preponderante protagonismo en la representación, el cuerpo y el género se entrelazan en una majestuosa danza. Con respeto a la popular danza de los siete velos, en realidad se desconoce si existió, está considerada una invención mas bien hollywoodense, pero no por eso deja de tener un significado profundo, no es casual el que se haya manejado el número siete, este número cabalísticamente significa “la suerte”, esta ligado a la prosperidad y abundancia, al triunfo, a la justicia, es el humano integro, el adulto ya completamente consciente de si mismo y por ellos responsable, a la iluminación de las cosas, por esa razón la existencia del candelabro de siete velas, usado en la religión judía como también en muchas iglesias. Al velo se le llama también “al mileia”, es el manto usado por mujer común del pueblo o de la religiosa musulmana, de la cual se ha desarrollado todo un folklore en torno a ello.
